Obligations of Parents in Islam

Just as obedience to father and mother has been commanded upon the children by the Holy Quran and Hadith, likewise the parents have also been urged to release their obligations and duties towards their children. The responsibilities of the parents comprise of bringing-up and nursing of the children, teaching of good manners and imparting of education maintenance and spending for their relaxations besides kind behavior, affection, love, and their security. At the very birth of a child she or he should be labelled a good name. Instantly on birth, announcement of Allah’s name should be ended in their ears. According to a practice of the Holy Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him), education is obligatory for every Muslim female or male and consequently, the parents are obliged to provide them good education- worldly as well as religious -which normally starts with the education of the Holy Quran. The children are also educated how to achieve their religious duties like prayer, Zakat, Fasting and so on. They must be taught about hajj rituals and when Muslims go for Islamic pilgrimage to Mecca and how they perform hajj and umrah. 

Of all the possessions, which the children get from their parents, the best is good behaviors. So, the children should be trained good behaviors and given good training concerning with their general conduct and behavior from the commencement. When the children attain marriageable age, it is the bounden responsibility of their parents to wed them. Even after the adolescence, marriage and individuality of children, the parents should pray for the happiness of their children and should never appeal punishment or curse of Allah Almighty against them.

Among the children, up-bringing and the maintenance of daughters has been more highlighted. Islam eliminated the evil custom of killing of female children which was widespread among the pre-Islamic Arabs who were troubled to hear the news of birth of a daughter and occasionally finished her life by put in the ground her alive. Homicide of children has been acknowledged a great sin by the Holy Quran. Islam has given and raised the status of female children to the equal of male children.
